Lilia Deering

(she/her) is a queer Seattle-born artist and designer specializing in creating vibrant sculptures and built environments. She has made work for a variety of contexts including stage productions, films, art galleries, escape rooms, retail spaces and events.

Deering seeks to connect with diverse audiences by stimulating the senses, sparking curiosity, and igniting the imagination. Her process of experimentation with a variety of materials leads to colorful and highly textural pieces. Her work is often interactive, in service of an overall mission to break down barriers between the spectator and the art, creating memorable lived experiences.

Lilia holds a BFA from CalArts as well as a Certificate in Museum Studies from the University of Washington. She has exhibited in Los Angeles at the Silent Play Experiment, and in Italy as a fellow of the Nature Art & Habitat Residency. She has been featured in Seattle at No Bad Days, Vermillion, Base Camp, ARTS at King Street Station, and the Museum of Museums. Her largest immersive installation to date, created in collaboration with Mary Anne Carter, will be on view fall of 2024 at Base Camp 2. Deering creates art and merchandise under the alias, Welcome Gnome, and frequently hosts open studios at Slide as part of the Belltown Artwalk.
